ThermiVa Vaginal Rejuvenation

I am not a fan of the term “Vaginal Rejuvenation” – I find it vaguely disturbing. It is part of common speech and the literature, so while I would prefer “Optimizing Vaginal Health” I think we are stuck with it.

I am, however, a big fan of what this technology can do. First, what is vaginal rejuvenation? There are several competing technologies, all of which share the same end effect: applying heat to various vaginal and vulvar structures to stimulate the production of new collagen, blood vessels, and nerve endings. I chose ThermiVa, as it is the smallest and most comfortable instrument – about the size and shape of a pinky, has the greatest number of applications, is the most hygienic and effective.

For Urinary Incontinence, the probe is applied to the upper vaginal wall. This stimulates the production of new collagen which serves to support the bladder and prevent urinary loss with sneezing, coughing, and exercise. It does not replace surgery for the more extreme cases but works well for mild to moderate symptoms.

For Vaginal Dryness, the probe is applied throughout the vaginal surfaces. The resulting increased blood flow allows for the production of greater amounts of natural lubrication. This is a great option for peri-menopausal or post-menopausal women who find worsening discomfort during sex, who find over-the-counter lubricants inadequate, and who would prefer not to use hormone replacement therapy.

For Decreased Orgasm Frequency or Intensity, the probe is applied to the clitoral hood and adjacent labia minora. Nerve endings are sensitized, resulting in orgasms that are easier to obtain and stronger in intensity.

For Excessive Size of Labia Majora or Labia Minora (the outer and inner lips of the vulva), or For Vaginal Laxity, the probe is applied to these structures, where the local heat causes tightening of the underlying collagen. This is effective for mild to moderate symptoms but does not replace surgery for more substantial issues.

ThermiVa is performed in the office, is comfortable, and does not require any anesthesia or recuperation time. We advise three monthly treatments, followed by a single booster treatment every nine to twelve months thereafter. Treatments take from 20 to 45 minutes depending on the number of areas affected. ThermiVa responses are individual, from fair to fantastic; results of this therapy, like all medical therapy, cannot be guaranteed.
